Trends That Matter

We include developments from the Staffing Industry Daily News and The Staffing Stream to help you focus on emerging movements that could shape your business for the better.

Polishing Touch

Keep an eye out for these common résumé mistakes.

Help your candidates avoid making these turns-offs:

  • Too verbose. Time management is a concern for hiring managers. Your candidates should clearly articulate their skills without overcomplicating things.
  • Spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Too creative. Candidates might think their new layout and color scheme looks pretty cool, but odds are it takes focus away from their skills and places it elsewhere.
  • Just one version. People become so attached to their former accomplishments they can’t bear to eliminate them from their résumés. But the résumé should highlight their skills that parallel requirements of the job in question.

Room for Improvement

Companies could do better when it comes to employee performance reviews.

More than one-half, 53 percent, of human resources professionals gave their organizations a grade between B to C+ for effectively managing employee performance reviews, according to a survey by the Society for Human Resource Management. Another 21 percent gave their organizations a C in performance management; only 2 percent gave their organizations an A.
