QUESTION:
There has been much discussion about gender disparity and the wage gap between male and female workers. In fact, California’s governor recently signed a tough equal-pay law. But what does the staffing industry look like in terms of gender disparity?

Answer:
While Staffing Industry Analysts does not have research that looks directly at a potential wage disparity, a survey of people at 515 staffing firms in North America this year found the overwhelming majority of both male and female executives did not feel their gender was either an advantage or disadvantage in the staffing industry.

The survey found 84% of males felt their gender was neither an advantage nor disadvantage in the staffing industry. Among females, 78% felt their gender was neither an advantage nor disadvantage in the staffing industry.

However, among those who did feel gender makes a difference, 19% of females said their gender was an advantage in the staffing industry while only 8% of males did.
