The past few years have been transformative for the staffing industry. Technology has delivered changes in speed, efficiency and visibility. Transformation has been especially evident among firms on Staffing Industry Analysts’ 2023 Fastest-Growing US Staffing Firms list.

“We’ve taken processes that used to eat up time and streamlined them with automation, from job matching to candidate qualification and offer generation,” says Alexi Nazem, a medical doctor as well as founder and CEO of Nomad Health, which tops the Fastest- Growing US Staffing Firms list this year.

This year, 158 firms qualified for the Fastest-Growing US Staffing Firms list, up from 122 in 2022.

It was a good year for travel nurse staffing firms especially. SIA’s forecast estimates travel nurse staffing revenue rose by 190% in 2021 and by 45% in 2022.

That growth in the overall sector is more than reflected in the Fastest-Growing US Staffing Firms list, which is sponsored by The Braff Group. Seven of the 10 fastest-growing firms are travel nurse providers. Among the top 20 firms, that count is 16. The expansion was driven by both volume and bill rates. And Covid-19 brought much transformation to the industry.

But it wasn’t all travel nursing. The top 10 also included two firms focused on IT staffing. Three of the firms in the top 10 on last year’s Fastest-Growing list are in the top 10 of this year’s: Spire Healthcare, Lead Health and Prolink. Here’s a list of the top 10 for this year:

  1. Nomad Health
  2. Spire Healthcare LLC
  3. Access Healthcare LLC
  4. Lead Health
  5. Pacer Staffing LLC
  6. IntelyCare Inc.
  7. Aya Healthcare
  8. Prolink
  9. Quantum World Technologies Inc.
  10. Stability Healthcare

Interestingly, travel nursing only ranked as the second most common segment served by firms on the list, with 47 companies saying they provided travel nurses. Overall, the most common segment among all 158 firms was IT with 59 firms offering workers with these skills.

To qualify for the list, staffing firms had to post at least $1 million in revenue in 2018 and have a compound annual growth rate in revenue of at least 15% between 2018 and 2022. All numbers are self-reported. However, all firms on the list had to verify revenue. Where companies have international operations, only US revenue was used in calculations for the list.
